About the Journal

The Journal of the Music Research Association (JOMRA) is an international, peer-reviewed journal focused on innovative and interdisciplinary studies that support original and high-quality research in the field of music sciences. Fostering scientific production, JOMRA commenced publication in 2025 and is published biannually in both Turkish and English.

JOMRA provides a significant academic platform for researchers, scholars, and anyone interested in musicology. With its open-access policy, the journal aims to facilitate access to knowledge in music sciences and contribute to the development of the field. By encouraging the dissemination of scientific knowledge, JOMRA aspires to be a leading resource that directs and shapes the future of music research.

Aim and Scope

The Journal of the Music Research Association (JOMRA) aims to strengthen international academic cooperation and advance the body of knowledge in the field by encouraging innovative and interdisciplinary research in music sciences. The journal seeks to establish a global knowledge-sharing network by publishing studies that develop new theories in music research, enhance intercultural interaction, and guide the direction of music science. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, the journal supports innovative research across various fields such as musicology, psychology, education, sociology, and technology. JOMRA makes significant contributions to music sciences by publishing high-quality and original works.

JOMRA features research and reviews that encompass the broad and multifaceted nature of music sciences. The journal's scope includes diverse disciplines such as musicology, ethnomusicology, music education, music theory, music technology, performance analysis, historical music research, music psychology, and music sociology. Providing a platform where authors can publish their original, scientific, and applied works, JOMRA encourages both theoretical and applied studies.

Publication Frequency

Our journal is published biannually, with issues released in May and November.

Publication Language

The journal is published in both Turkish and English. Manuscripts may be submitted in either of these languages.

Digital Archiving and Preservation

The content of the Journal of the Music Research Association is preserved via the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), which provides permanent archiving for academic journals. The PKP PN utilizes the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) program to ensure decentralized and distributed preservation of the content. This program guarantees long-term access by ensuring uninterrupted access to the original and unaltered version of the journal. Additionally, full-text versions of all articles published in the journal are stored in PDF format at the National Library of Turkey.

Open Access Statement

The Journal of the Music Research Association is an open-access journal. All articles are published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium or format, provided the original work is properly cited. Authors retain the copyright to their published work. Open access ensures increased reuse and citation, higher visibility and discoverability, broader engagement and impact, increased interdisciplinary work, and wider collaboration.

The Journal of the Music Research Association has adopted the Open Access definition published by the Budapest Open Access Initiative in February 2002: “By ‘open access’ to this literature, we mean its free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself. The only constraint on reproduction and distribution, and the only role for copyright in this domain, should be to give authors control over the integrity of their work and the right to be properly acknowledged and cited.”

The publisher commits that it will not charge any subscription fees to any reader or library, nor will it charge fees for access to electronic articles.

Authors contributing to the Journal of the Music Research Association agree to publish their articles under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY). This license allows for unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium or format, including commercial use, provided the original work is properly cited.

Authors retain the copyright of their work; they transfer the first publication rights to the Music Research Association. Users are allowed to:

Sponsorship

The Music Research Association accepts sponsorship from external organizations to support the activities of the Journal of the Music Research Association. However, such sponsorships do not influence editorial decisions, and all content is developed solely based on scientific merit. The journal maintains full editorial independence, ensuring that sponsorships do not compromise the integrity of the published content.
